I upgraded to digital cable last year and went to IR channel changing. I discovered that one of the TiVo updates I had received had brought with it a "wizard" that determined the optimal IR codes to use. I ran through it and it worked perfectly. Channels changed reliably for months.
About a month ago, that changed. The TiVo now fails to successfully change the channel about 15-20% of the time. I first checked the positioning of the IR transmitters, then reran that wizard. It didn't fail once. I waited a few days, missed a few recordings, then reran it. Again, it's bulletproof. Manually changing channels seems to always work fine. But I still miss a fair amount of my scheduled recordings.
Unfortunately changing channels via the serial cable isn't possible with this model of digital cable box. I would spend more time mucking about with the IR codes if the wizard didn't appear to so readily have success. The TiVo unit itself is about 4 yrs old.
Any ideas?

Re: problematic IR channel changing
Tue, December 5, 2006 - 11:13 AMHi Dave. Just an FYI. I havbe Comcast and they also gave me a non-serial port box which I took back in and asked about and they replaced it with a different one with a serial port for free.
